Happy Birthday to me! #booksandbonfires

Hey, it’s my birthday! So I’m doing a ramble-post today, yay!

I know I’ve been doing a lot of reviews lately, and not much else. I’m having a hard time getting back into blogging after taking a hiatus for the summer. I’m realizing that I should really be spending more time with my family instead of letting my kids play on their iPads and the Switch for hours while I read… Oops. We’re working on shifting gears as a family, and my kids are about as grumpy to lose their “tablet time” as I am to lose my the-kids-are-quiet-so-Mommy-can-read time… :/ But I don’t want their brains to turn to mush, so there you have it.

On a lighter and more fun note, last weekend I had some of my booknerd friends come out to my aunt’s cabin and we had a #booksandbonfires readathon weekend! It was so fun, and I feel so lucky to have friends who will just hang out and ignore each other while we all read our own thing, hahaha! I managed to finish three books, and I really liked all of them, so that’s AWESOME. I also DNF’d one book, and made the call to DNF/abandon two others that I’d been reading (and avoiding) for way too long… And I made progress on my audiobook during the hour and a half drive each way!

We also learned to play the Tea Dragon Society card game (a birthday gift from Annie) and it was SUPER cute. We ate lots of good food, had a lovely fire burning in the wood stove fireplace thing-a-ma-jig, and talked about what kind of witch we all are. (You kind of had to be there for that last one…) We were SUPPOSED to watch the 2005 Pride & Prejudice and play Marrying Mr. Darcy, but that didn’t happen, so I guess I’ll need to wrangle people together again another time for that. πŸ˜‰

All in all, it was a super fun weekend! Which is great, because my actual birthday today is shaping up to be less-than-stellar. Crabby kids, warm Diet Coke, a headache, and payday is tomorrow so today I have no money for the peppermint mocha my heart is calling for. BUT! We’re having dinner at my mom’s tonight and she’s making crab legs and cheesey potatoes (YUMMMM), and I get to see my little brother and sis-in-law, and there will be CAKE. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a marble cake with whipped frosting. What’s your fave type of cake? Let me know in the comments! πŸ˜‰
