This is part of a series on fairy tale retellings I’m putting together. The other posts in the series (so far) include:
Fairy Tale Retellings: Cinderella
Fairy Tale Retellings; Beauty & the Beast
Cyrano de Bergerac Retellings in Books and Film
I adore Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll in all its many forms. While this isn’t a traditional fairy tale, I feel like it serves as a base storyline for some really great retellings just like many of my favorite fairy tales. Like my other Fairy Tale posts, I’m going to divide these by genres. Watch for part 2 next week for some of my favorite movie/TV adaptations!
I don’t know what it is about Alice, but retellings seem to go either to a very dark place (zombies!) or erotica/reverse harem. I don’t write the stories, I only find them for you. /shrug

Um, I adore this!!!!! I love that you included the live-action show from the 90’s because I remember that one. I’m going to add the contemp and manga ones to my TBR. This post kind of blows me away, my Ferrero.

I love retellings in general, and I agree that Alice is perfect for retelling. Heartless is definitely my favorite, but I also enjoyed Splintered and Insanity, and I still plan to read A Blade So Black and Alice in Zombieland at some point.

Alice In Wonderland was one of my favorite books as a kid. I don’t think I’ve ever read a retelling. I need to look some of these up.

Nice list!
Not even 2 months after you published this, another Alice in Wonderland sequel came out: Alice’s Adventures under Water.
It is a new story about Alice, very faithful to the original tale by Lewis Carroll. You may be interested in that one too!
